We, the six Filipino student organizations at San Francisco State University, (AKO, XPO, KPsiE, LFS SFSU, PACE,  and InterVarsity Kapwa) call for and support the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the Philippines. The devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan is not limited to only areas in the Visayas region, but it affects the whole Philippines and Filipinos worldwide. Due to the destruction caused by super typhoon Haiyan and the Philippine government’s lack of political will to aid victims, we believe that Filipino workers would benefit by working to support their families under TPS instead of being under threat of deportation back to devastated areas in the Philippines. We as students show our solidarity with the workers and recognize the connections to the struggles of Filipinos in the Philippines, in the U.S., and all over the world. We urge the U.S. government to grant TPS for the Philippines to support Filipino workers and their families.

Further, beyond granting TPS, we urge the US government to support genuine comprehensive immigration reform for ALL workers by prioritizing human rights over the interests of big business.
